It was the first time that we participate at the Open Source Lisbon Conference, and we should point out the event as a really great meeting, no doubt. The Lisbon convention is considered the largest Open Source event in Portugal and also a worldwide reference. This year Open Source Lisbon 2019 took place on October 4th at Centro Cultural de Belém.

The main theme of the Open Source Lisbon event was ‘Open Source: Leading The Generation Shift’ focusing on how Open Source is transforming the world we live in, as well as demonstrating the unprecedented growth of open source adoption across all industries.

Open Source Lisbon

This year the organizers – mainly Syone - introduced the Open Room, an area dedicated to Open Source associations worldwide, and CodeSyntax and our Open Technologies Association ESLE (the Association of Open Source Software Companies of the Basque Country), was invited to speak about the Open Source ecosystem in our country. It was a great opportunity to spread our activities, and to meet with associations (ESOP, GFOSS, CNNL, AQUINETIC, ESLE, ASOLIF, ...), from other regions and countries as France, Greece, Portugal or Spain. (And to meet with nice people who were always ready to support us at any time as Despina MitropoulouJean-Christophe Elineau, Paulo Ribeiro and many others)

So, following our previous experiences in Bilbao (LIBRECON) and in Bordeaux (B-BOOST) different European Open Source Associations promoting Open Source united people and organisations in the Lisbon OpenRoom.

My talk was focussed on the Basque Open Source Ecosystem an on the private-public collaboration, so collaboration between ESLE, the Association of Open Source Software Companies of the Basque Country,  and other regional public and private organizations (SPRI, Basque Gouverment, Provincial Governments, Basque industry associations, services associations, innovation agencies, ...) , in orther to boosting up the digital transformation in our country.

At the end, ESLE Association and ESLE companies are committed to promoting the use of Open Source Software in all areas of society, defending a model that all members consider useful for the business sector (economic implications), and for the territory and the public administration (economic and social implications)

We are companies with experience in the application and implementation of open source software and open technologies. And looking at the future, I would like underline coopetition - the cooperative competition - and hybridization - mixing up companies, knowledge & activities - as the key issues to our Open Source association.

As I said at the beginning, it was the first time that we participate at the Open Source Lisbon Conference, and we should point out the event as a great meeting. In addition, this year Open Source Lisbon 2019 took place on October 4th at Centro Cultural de Belém. And Belém is a charming district to the west of Lisbon, and is the setting for many of the city’s most iconic tourist attractions: Torre de Belém (Belém Tower), Mosteiro dos Jeronimos (Jerónimos Monastery), Padrão dos Descobrimentos, ... and and, of course, the Pastéis de Belém, the traditional  Portuguese custard tart

Finally, I would like thanks Eduardo, Raquel, Vitor, Francisco, Adriana, Hugo and all the Lisbon Open Source team for organized such an amazing event. Until next time!
