Txio (tweet, in Basque) is a product developed by CodeSyntax for the website of EITB, the Basque public broadcasting company. It's an aggregator of tweets with interesting features: language detection, so it can channel messages in Basque or Spanish to different streams and interfaces, and also login options via Facebook and Twitter. The result is a tool that works both as a Live Blog for the news organization that EITB is, and also as a channel for comment and participation in developing events or live streaming occasions. One of those events is today, the MinoriTB meeting of TV Broadcasters in Minority Languages, held in Bilbao. See Txio in action there.

So,Txio has mainly two faces nowadays: txio.eitb.com is the frontpage that follows all corporative twitter streams of EITB and then classifies content in Spanish as well as in Basque. Tweets are processed live, of course, and rich information is shown with them (URLs parsed, videos and images rendered).

On the other hand, Txio can work as a Live Blog or as a channel for comment and participation in developing events or live streaming occasions. And this is an occasion for that:

  • MinoriTB meeting of TV Broadcasters in Minority Languages, held in Bilbao today, november 30th, from 9.00 CET in the morning.

The event can be followed live thanks to EITB's streaming services, and it will have a participative Txio window attached to it.

A number of twitter-users that EITB knows that are attending will be followed in that stream, but also the #minoritb hashtag will be followed. Then, direct participation is also possible, if you log via Facebook or Twitter. In that case, you'll see that you can even post more than Twitter's 140 character barrier (Txio workd kinda Twitlonger).

Many other events will be followed with Txio over the next months in Eitb.com. This week, the Buber Prize ( Basque Internet awards) or a final Pelota match on sunday. Also, probably in 2 or 3 weeks, the Prime minister designation in the first parliamentary meeting of the new Spanish congress (after the recent election), in which Mariano Rajoy of the conservative PP will take that office.

Txio can also work in other languages, if anyone is interested. Just as we developed Umap in Welsh to follow the whole of the welsh tweeting community, the same technology of language detection and tweet processing is behind Txio.
