This morning, Jon Iraola (Mayor of Eibar) and Iñigo Garcia (Director of Tourism of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa) accompanied Mikel Larreategi and Lur Ibargutxi, partners of CodeSyntax and members of the Plone community in the presentation of the International Technological Conference PLONECONF 2023. The conference, which will take place between October 2 and 8, will turn Eibar, Gipuzkoa, and the Basque Country into a reference point for free software and content management on the Internet during the next week.

  • Organized by CodeSyntax and Plone Foundation, with the sponsorship of the Eibar City Council, Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, and the Basque Government - SPRI, the 20th edition of the PLONECONF 2023 International Technology Conference will be held from October 2 to 8 in Eibar.
  • This is one of the main events for free software content management systems on the Internet held in Europe.
  • 200 experts and users from more than 25 countries will participate in the Conference: Germany, France, Canada, USA, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Japan, India, South Africa... And another 200 experts will participate online in the same.
  • The Conference program includes training sessions for two days (October 2 and 3) at the Markeskua Palace, the headquarters of the UEU, the Basque Summer University, three days of conferences (October 4, 5, and 6) in the 3 rooms of the Coliseum Theatre, and another two days of technology development sprints (October 7 and 8) again in Markeskua.

 

The opening ceremony will be held on October 4 at the Teatro Coliseo, with the participation of the mayor of Eibar Jon Iraola, the Provincial Deputy for Mobility, Tourism and Territorial Planning Azahara Domínguez and the Director of Digital Transformation and Entrepreneurship of the Basque Government Leyre Madariaga.

Tokyo, Bucharest, Boston and Bristol are some of the cities that have hosted previous editions of the technology event.  event, in which professionals and companies participate. In the words of Mayor Jon Iraola, “This event is another clear example of the importance given in Eibar to the technological field. The congress is an opportunity for our city, for the exchange of knowledge and experiences. Without a doubt, the presence of experts and visitors from different parts of the world in our city is a good opportunity for this.”

For his part, Iñigo García, Director of Tourism, wanted to highlight “the great importance of this event as an example of the possibilities that all of Gipuzkoa offers as a MICE tourism destination. For this reason, from the Tourism Department we are committed to the development of conferences such as Plone Conference. It is great news to have an event like this in our territory.” And he commented that “we have a territory prepared to host conferences and we are an increasingly requested destination for companies that develop incentive trips and initiatives.”

PloneConf is an International Conference held every year since 2004 (usually in October) at a different location. Tokyo, Bucharest, Boston, San Francisco, Brasilia, Ferrara and Bristol have been the meeting points of previous editions.

On this occasion, the event has been brought to the Basque Country and will be organized by the Eibar company CodeSyntax. The 20th edition of this annual conference has a dozen entities and companies among its sponsors. Some of them are: Eibar City Council, Basque Government, SPRI Group Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Udako Euskal Unibertsitatea and companies such as RedTurtle, Jazkarta, CodeSyntax, Six feet up, eCityclic, Nuclia, Zest Software, KitConcept, Interaktiv or Starzel.

The meeting will bring together leading international companies in free software technology that have more than 2,000 development engineers around the world, an ecosystem of more than half a thousand companies implementing it in 57 countries and millions of daily users around the world. Plone is a free content management software system that can be used to build any type of website: portals, corporate websites, external or internal websites, news publishing venues (including blogs), online stores (e- commerce), document repository tasks and collaboration tools. It is a development based on open source and an immense number of diverse organizations and companies such as NASA, Oxfam, eBay, Nokia, Utah State University, the CIA, the Brazilian Government, Novel, ONCE or the European Commission make use of it.
