Summary of Plone Conference 2017

Adapt your website to mobile devices
We are getting more and more visits from mobiles everyday. Google knows it and keeps taking different measures to ensure an adequate browsing experience for our visitors. How does it do it? For example, showing mobile adapted websites above the rest.
Local media application
This week, mobile applications made for four members of the Tokikom association are being presented: Anboto, Baleike, Erran and Goiena. We have developed the Android and iOS versions, which are now available to download and try.
A customized digital platform for local media
It is been years since we started to work in the Internet sector and the media: we created the pioneer blog in Basque called Sustatu.com along with Goiena, we have been years collaborating with Goiena, as well as many other media.
print ( 'We \u2764 unicode' ) sticker at EuroPython 2015
As bronze sponsors of EuroPython 2015 we had the chance of including something in the attendee bag. Since a commercial leaflet was nonsense we made this sticker.
Sponsoring EuroPython 2015
15 years ago when my colleagues founded CodeSyntax they decided to develop on Python. That's why when we heard that our PYSS friends were organizing EuroPython in Bilbao the decision about sponsoring the event was clear. Apart from that, we'll also give a talk about our experience as Python developers.
Twitter will be able to detect and markup Basque, in collaboration with PuntuEUS and CodeSyntax
Thanks to a collaboration with the PuntuEUS Foundation, the Twitter social network has taken the leap to the .EUS domain, which is the expression of the Basque language community. Moreover, thanks to data provided by CodeSyntax, Twitter will soon be able to identify tweets written in Basque.
CodeSyntax launches its trivia quiz game for mobile devices, with more than 130,000 questions
Tribual is a simple and addictive game for Android mobile devices. You and your opponent receive the same 5 questions, and the trick is to answer more of them correctly and faster than your opponent. The app has thousands of questions, which are automatically generated and cover a wide variety of topics (geography, culture, film, sports, fauna, current events, etc.). The game was first released as a Beta version in Basque, and it has been downloaded over 1,500 times. It was awarded the GipuzkoaAPPs prize for most original application.

zest.releaser and some add-ons
For some time we have been using a release_egg.sh script found in some plone svn repository (currently unreachable) to do proper egg releases, bump the egg version and upload them to pypi or our custom repository. But now we are moving to use zest.releaser for both public and private eggs. We have written two add-ons for it to ease our move from our previous hand-made-scripts.

Journey to Brussels, thanks to our MEP and Plone
Last week, I traveled to the European Parliament in Brussels, invited by a Basque MEP, Inaki Irazabalbeitia. Mr. Irazabalbeitia was kind enought to invite a group of people involved in the promotion of the Basque langauge, and I happened to fit there, maybe also because we have made the MEP's website. And made it with truly European technology, so to speak.
Finally found a way to deploy a Plone site statically
Until now converting Plone into a bunch of HTML, CSS and JS files was a work to be done with wget or curl. You can now use stxnext.staticdeployment product, a handy product to convert your Plone site into static files. And even works with Dexterity. The "Plone Big Green Button" as described by Martin Aspeli, is a reality.
DjangoCon 2013, talks, tools and the circus
We attended DjangoCon 2013 in Warsaw, Poland, last week. A great experience. Godd vibes, connections and shared knowledge for us to keep working with Django. This framework and Plone, that great open CMS, are the main tools we use in CodeSyntax to develop web projects. Each conference that we attend confirms that we chose technologies well :-)
